24 December 2026: buildings closed
150–240 min
That is for the main circuit plus a walk through the grounds; the gardens add more.
Arriving at opening or late in the day usually means smaller crowds in the cathedral; summer and weekends are busiest.
Take the tram up to skip the climb, then walk back down through the Lesser Town; the courtyards themselves are free to wander.
Enter through the first courtyard and watch the guards at the main gate. Inside, St Vitus Cathedral dominates the third courtyard with its stained glass and the chapel of St Wenceslas. Next comes the Old Royal Palace with the wide Vladislav Hall. Continue to the red front of St George's Basilica, then down Golden Lane, a row of tiny painted houses. Leave through the east gate for a view over the city.
Pražský hrad (tram 22, 23), right by the castle; or Malostranská (Metro A), about 15 to 20 minutes' uphill walk As of Oct 2026
The castle crowns Hradčany on the left bank; trams climb to its north side, or walk up through the Lesser Town.
Step-free accessThe operator says all buildings open to the public have barrier-free access, except the White Tower, Daliborka Tower, Powder Tower, the Great South Tower of St Vitus Cathedral and the defence corridors in Golden Lane near Daliborka Tower.
The courtyards and grounds can be entered free, while the buildings need a Main circuit ticket that allows one entry to each, as of Oct 2026. Tickets are sold online and at the castle's information centres. The Book box on this page shows partner tickets and current prices.
The historic buildings keep longer hours in summer than in winter, so the hours box shows this month's, as of Oct 2026. The grounds stay open from early morning into the late evening. Next special hours: 24 December 2026: buildings closed. Arriving at opening usually means a calmer cathedral.
The Main circuit takes in St Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, St George's Basilica and Golden Lane. Luggage and umbrellas go into a provided place before you enter a building, as of Oct 2026. Eating and drinking inside the buildings is not allowed.
Many visitors allow about 150–240 min, as of Oct 2026, for the main buildings at a steady pace, plus time in the courtyards and gardens. The Main circuit ticket stays valid for a second day, so the visit can be split if you prefer.
