One card for most rides on public transport. Airport routes are in Flights.
A reusable plastic chip card from the Prague transport system that holds a season pass for Prague. It is mainly for longer stays; for a short visit a paper ticket, an app ticket or a bank-card tap is usually simpler. The card has a one-off fee that depends on how you apply.
Per person, paid locally · as of October 2026
Metered taxis in Prague have published maximum prices made up of a start fee, a price per kilometre and a price per minute of waiting. Booking through an app can instead show a price before you confirm, and card payment is usually possible, so check the price on screen or ask the driver before you set off.

Cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants and larger shops. Some shops set a minimum for card payments, so a little cash in koruna is handy, and prices are in koruna rather than euros.
ATMs run by banks are usually cheaper than stand-alone machines, though many banks also charge foreign cards a fee. If asked, choose to be charged in Czech Koruna. Your own bank may also charge a foreign-use fee. Check with your bank before you go.
Tipping is optional but usual in Prague. In a sit-down restaurant many visitors leave about 5 to 10 percent in cash for good service, and for a taxi it is common to round the fare up. Check the bill first for any service charge.
Old Town (Staré Město)

Quick answers to common questions.
Plan on three to four days for the main sights. Allow about 150 to 240 minutes for Prague Castle, 120 to 180 minutes for the Jewish Museum sites and 90 to 180 minutes for Vyšehrad, plus time to wander the Old Town and Charles Bridge. Kutná Hora and Karlštejn each need a separate day. As of 25 Oct 2026.
It depends on what you want. The busiest stretch is usually the warm season, and winter is quieter outside the Christmas period, with spring and autumn in between. Check the dates of any festival or market you want to see before you book your rooms. As of 25 Oct 2026.
Prague airport has no train. A city bus runs from the airport to the Nádraží Veleslavín stop on Metro A, which is the simplest link on a normal public transport ticket costing CZK 36, and the Airport Express bus runs to the main railway station on its own fare. Taxis typically cost around CZK 800 for the ride into the centre, and a ride app such as Uber also works from the airport. As of 25 Oct 2026.
One ticket works on the metro, trams, buses and ferries. The shortest time ticket costs CZK 36 in the PID Lítačka app, and a one-day ticket costs CZK 140. Tickets must be activated or stamped before you ride, and you can buy them in the app or at machines. As of 25 Oct 2026.

Cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants and larger shops, but some shops set a minimum for card payments, so a little cash in koruna is useful. For cash machines, those attached to bank branches are a simple choice, and if a machine offers to charge you in your home currency, choose koruna. As of 25 Oct 2026.
Yes. Prague charges a local accommodation fee of CZK 50 for each guest and night, usually collected by the accommodation and paid by the guest. Young people are exempt, and it applies to paid stays of limited length. Check whether your booking price already includes it, because it is often listed separately. As of 25 Oct 2026.
Visit the Klementinum with a guided tour only, so check the tour times and book ahead for your preferred slot. The Prague Castle circuits and the Jewish Museum sites sell tickets online, which lets you skip a queue on busy days. Check each operator page for the current rules before you travel. As of 25 Oct 2026.
Czechia uses 230 V at 50 Hz, with plug types C and E, the two-round-pin sockets. Many phone and laptop chargers accept this voltage, but visitors from countries with different sockets will need a plug adapter. Check the label on each charger: if it lists a voltage range that includes this one, only the plug shape needs changing. As of 25 Oct 2026.
Czech is the everyday language of the city. The latest EF English Proficiency Index ranks Czechia number 23 of 123 countries and regions and gives Prague city a score of 576, where a higher score means stronger English. A few words of Czech are always appreciated, and the phrases section lists some. As of 25 Oct 2026.
Much of the Old Town and the bridges cost nothing to enjoy on foot. The main costs are tickets and meals. For an adult, the Jewish Museum sites cost CZK 600, the Old Town Hall Tower CZK 350, the Petřín Lookout Tower CZK 250 and the National Museum CZK 360, and a one-day transport ticket costs CZK 140. Prices change, so check each place. As of 25 Oct 2026.
Many central sights are within walking distance, and the metro, trams and buses cover the rest. The shortest time ticket costs CZK 36 and a one-day ticket costs CZK 140. Taxis run on the meter, and ride-hailing apps such as Uber, Bolt and Liftago also work in the city. As of 25 Oct 2026.
Walking is the main free pleasure: the Old Town Square, Charles Bridge, Wenceslas Square and the streets of Malá Strana are open public space. The Lennon Wall and the hilltop parks cost nothing either. Some museums are free at set times, so check each page before you go.
Kutná Hora, with its cathedral and ossuary, is about 51 to 78 minutes by train from Prague, and Karlštejn Castle about 41 to 45 minutes. Český Krumlov is a longer trip of about 148 to 195 minutes. Each trip usually takes most of a day. As of 25 Oct 2026.
Prague has no single visitor card in our research, but the PID Lítačka app sells time tickets, including a one-day ticket for CZK 140 and a three-day ticket for CZK 340. The reusable Lítačka card costs CZK 100 one time. Check the seller page for the current rules before you buy. As of 25 Oct 2026.
A standard adult ticket for the Jewish Museum in Prague costs CZK 600. It covers the Spanish, Old-New and Pinkas synagogues, the Old Jewish Cemetery and the museum exhibitions, and the Old-New Synagogue is no longer sold separately. Reduced tickets and the other synagogue have their own prices on the operator page. As of 25 Oct 2026.
Metered taxis in Prague follow a maximum price per trip, with a short ride of about two kilometres coming to around CZK 154 before any waiting time. A taxi between the airport and the centre typically costs around CZK 800. Ride apps can quote a fixed price before you confirm. As of 25 Oct 2026.
For a first visit, usually yes. The three-day plan covers Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, the Jewish Quarter, the Old Town Hall and Wenceslas Square. The longer plans reach the districts east of the river and the riverside walks.
Spend the first day on the walk from Old Town Square over Charles Bridge to Prague Castle. Give the second to the Jewish Quarter, with its synagogues, cemetery and museum, and use the third for the Old Town Hall, the Powder Tower and Wenceslas Square. As of 29 Oct 2026.
It depends on where you stay and eat; entry tickets are the main fixed cost. For an adult, Prague Castle costs CZK 450, the Jewish Museum sites CZK 600, the Klementinum CZK 380, the Old Town Hall Tower CZK 350 and the Mucha Museum CZK 300. The Plan at a glance box above the plan shows the entry total per adult. A single ride costs CZK 36 and a one-day ticket CZK 140. As of 29 Oct 2026.
