15–30 min
Plan a short stop, timed so you arrive a few minutes before the hour.
Early morning and late evening shows draw thinner crowds; arrive a little before the hour for a clear view.
While waiting for the show, study the calendar dial below; a separate ticket for the town hall tower adds a closer look.
Before the hour, study the upper astronomical dial, with the sun and moon moving against the zodiac ring. Below sits the calendar dial with scenes of country life for each month. Figures stand on both sides, among them Death holding an hourglass. As the hour strikes, two windows open and the apostles file past, then a golden cockerel crows to close the show.
The clock faces Old Town Square from the town hall, a few minutes on foot from Charles Bridge and Wenceslas Square.
No ticket is needed to watch the clock, since it faces open public space on Old Town Square, as of Oct 2026. The Old Town Hall tower behind it is a separate visit; the Book box on this page shows partner tickets and current prices.
The dial can be seen from the square at any hour, as of Oct 2026. The apostles' procession runs on the hour through the day and evening, as of Oct 2026. Early and late shows usually draw thinner crowds than midday ones.
Many visitors allow about 15–30 min, as of Oct 2026, enough to find a spot before the hour, watch the figures and study the calendar dial below. Crowds gather in the square before each procession, so arriving early helps you find a clear view.
The clock sits on Old Town Square, so it fits easily into a walk through the Old Town between Charles Bridge and Wenceslas Square. Timing a pass for the hour adds the apostles' procession to the walk. It appears in our plans as: Day 1, “Prague Castle & Charles Bridge”
