Each slot has a fixed length, so the visit has a natural end.
Slots can sell out, so booking well ahead is usually wise; the first slot of the day often feels calmest.
Every visitor needs a reserved slot and bigger bags go to the cloakroom; start with Bernini downstairs.
On the ground floor, Bernini's Apollo and Daphne shows the nymph turning into a laurel tree, and his Rape of Proserpina makes marble look like soft skin. Canova's reclining Pauline Bonaparte rests in her own room. Several Caravaggio paintings hang nearby. Upstairs, the picture gallery holds Raphael's Deposition and Titian's Sacred and Profane Love. The park outside invites a walk afterwards.
On the eastern side of Villa Borghese park; walk up through the park from the Spanish Steps, or take a bus or taxi.
Step-free accessThe museum has a stair lift at the front steps and a rear entrance that avoids stairs, which leads to the sculpture floor; a lift reaches the picture gallery upstairs, but it is small and the museum lends smaller wheelchairs for it.
Entry is only with a reserved ticket for an hourly slot, free tickets included, and a reservation fee applies to every ticket, as of Oct 2026. You can compare partner tickets and current prices in the Book box on this page.
On a usual Thursday the museum is open 9:00 AM–7:00 PM, with last entry 5:45 PM. It is closed on Monday. Holiday closures: 25 December 2026: closed. As of Oct 2026. Entry is by reserved hourly slot, so your booking sets the visit time.
Many visitors allow about 2 h, which matches the length of a slot. Bernini's sculptures fill the ground floor and the paintings wait upstairs. Medium or large bags go to the cloakroom first, and the park outside invites a slow walk afterwards.
Bernini's Apollo and Daphne stands at the centre of its own richly decorated room, among other sculptures on the ground floor. The picture gallery upstairs holds works by Caravaggio, Titian and Raphael. Canova's reclining Pauline Bonaparte rests in a room of her own nearby.
Under-eighteens have free tickets, but they still reserve an hourly slot like everyone else, as of Oct 2026. The reservation fee applies to every ticket, free ones included. Visitors aged eighteen to twenty-five from the EU pay a reduced rate, and the Book box shows current prices.
