A week gives each part of Rome its own day: the Vatican and the ancient centre, the Vatican Museums, the Spanish Steps, the Aventine and Trastevere, the Villa Borghese, ancient Rome in depth, and finally the great basilicas, the Baths of Caracalla and the Appian Way, an area that shorter visits seldom reach. Check the weekday for the seventh day: the Catacombs of San Callisto are closed on Wednesdays, and visits are guided only, with online reservation required. The Basilica of San Clemente asks for online booking to see its excavations, and on Sundays and public holidays the Appian Way is closed to motor vehicles for part of the day. As of 13 Oct 2026.
