Mornings soon after opening are usually calmest, before tour coaches arrive; weekdays are quieter than weekends.
Look into the painting gallery and the sea gates, then carry on by ferry or along the Bosphorus from Kabataş.
Pass through the clock tower gate and the formal gardens to the palace front. The visit follows a set route through the Selamlık, the official wing, with its crystal staircase and the vast ceremonial hall. A second route covers the Harem, the family quarters, including the room linked to Atatürk's final days. The painting museum in a side wing and the seafront gates are worth a look before you leave.
On the shore road in Beşiktaş, a flat walk north from Kabataş along the water, where ferries dock.
The standard ticket covers the Selamlık, the Harem and the Painting Museum, and combination tickets add other national palaces, as of Oct 2026. Tickets are sold at the palace gate and online. The Book box on this page shows partner tickets and current prices.
The state rooms blend an Ottoman layout with European-style decoration, and the grand reception hall is built around an enormous crystal chandelier. In the Harem, clocks are kept stopped in memory of Atatürk, and the gardens open onto the Bosphorus shore.
In our plans: Day 3, “Dolmabahçe Palace & İstiklal Avenue”. The palace lies on the European shore of the Bosphorus in Beşiktaş, away from the old city, so it usually anchors a day along the water. The map shows the palace and the stops nearby.
No. The palace is closed every Monday, as of Oct 2026. From Tuesday to Sunday it usually opens 9:00 AM–5:00 PM. The Selamlık and the Harem are seen in turn on a set route, so arriving soon after opening leaves time for both wings and the Painting Museum.
